By means of sculpture, video and performance, I create an alternative world of excess where hierarchies and social systems are undermined to investigate human complexity. The work is filled with plastic flowers, party balloons, ribbons, glitter, fake blood and chocolate excrement. Presenting at first sight a surface of play, colour and fun, they embody underneath a strange and dark formulation of chaos, amorality, danger and unpredictability. Like Seth Brundle when mutated into a disfigured fusion of human, fly, metal and wires in Cronnenberg’s The Fly, I produce creatures whose mutated bodies are a synthesis of intellect, social aesthetics, and consumerist commodity. These monsters lost their sense of individual identity, dissolved in the embrace of an environment they once, a long time ago, created. |
